Change the Channel

As much as I consider the last three years to be nothing short of a third-rate reality show feeding off the outrage, bombast, angst and bloodlust of the viewing demographic, here I sit with the iMac on live coverage of the second phase of the impeachment hearings. Or, choosing another metaphor, it’s the Deplorables versus the High School graduates. Sorry to be so blunt about it but it has become apparent that the thing that separate the two sides are three: One is education, one is race and one is God. Or putting it in the vernacular of the rhetorically relevant, white, uneducated Evangelicals versus everybody else who has a clue about life, its purpose and its meaning. Don’t even ask me about guns.

This pisses me off. Not so much because we (again) have this issue to deal with, or even that the person who sits in the director’s chair that has “Most Powerful Man in the World” stenciled across its back is a complete failure as a human being, but because almost half of the American population and virtually every Republican, has no problems whatsoever with his methods, management or manners. That the current administration has worked relentlessly behind the scenes to drive serious wedge issues further into the chasm separating us as a united citizenry in order to divide and eventually conquer for reasons of power, prestige and profit is reason enough to pursue the obvious solution. I find this appalling. One, for the fact that they prey upon the weak, the disenfranchised, those of color, the gay community, folks genuinely concerned about our fragile environment, those that abhor war, or basically anyone who disagrees with their white nationalist, faux-Christian propaganda. It breaks my heart to know that 50% of Americans have no problem with kids in cages, black men in jail, gerrymandering, the electoral college, illegal wars in seven countries, domestic terrorism and kickbacks from lobbing groups to manufacture the consent of corrupt elected officials. Excuse me while I go puke.

In this form of our mature democracy, we are supposed to be better than what we currently display as leadership. There is a blueprint, our constitution, and the laws that bind us together in trust, with freedom and with a guarantee of honesty through transparency. For everyone, not just those in the old boy network, who are, amusingly, seeking payback for eight years under leadership heads and shoulders about the current. I am tired of the lies. I am tired of cover-ups. I am tired of this for that. I am sickened by students lying in their own blood in the schools that are being defunded because, to this cabal of clowns, uneducated people are easier to control. Collateral damage.

There is no separation between us other than the ones that we create and enforce. We have succumbed to the vitriol of a violent gang of criminals who have the audacity to call themselves leaders. Their guy is a mob boss who has about as much business being president as I do. He has committed high crimes and misdemeanors with the ambivalence of a King. He has ordered hits on innocents, rivals and the poor. He is a bully. He embodies every weak element of manhood. He is a failure and a fraud. Worse is the fact that the senate, soon to be flipped, have put party over country and will not contest these crimes and actually applaud them. They are as complicit as he.

Impeachable offenses?

Absolutely. Let’s get it done and start the recovery process.
